(Elk Horn) Only five teams in the state remain undefeated in high school baseball after the season's first three weeks. Among those is 7-0 Exira-EHK. Following Treynor's 4-0 weekend loss to Bondarant-Farrar in softball, the Spartans are the lone area team to start of the season perfect in either baseball or softball.
Going back to last season Exira-EHK has won 21 of their last 22 games. The lone loss in that stretch was in the 2012 district finals to Coon Rapids-Bayard. Exira-EHK has gotten the job done with dominating pitching. They've given up just 26 hits and 12 runs all year. The pitching staff has a collective ERA of 1.22.
Leading the way have been sophomores Zach Kliefoth and Tyler Jacobsen who are a combined 5-0 on the hill. Kliefoth is yet to give up an earned run and has only allowed 4 hits in 10 innings. He's racked up 23 strikeouts compared to just two walks in his first two starts. Jacobsen, pictured, is the team leader in strikeouts with 36 through 22 innings pitched. Jacobsen's ERA sits at 1.27. Not to be left out is freshman Brady Hansen with his 2-0 record. Hansen has struck out 18 batters in 14 innings. He has allowed only 8 hits and has an ERA at 2.00.
