(Carroll) Backed by senior Chris Halbur's no-hitter, the Kuemper Catholic baseball team won a key early season Hawkeye-10 Conference contest Wednesday night over Harlan. Despite picking up just one hit themselves, the Knights, thanks to four walks, scratched across 4 runs in the shutout victory.
Halbur struck out 16 of the 22 batters he faced and was only one walk away from a perfect game(Nick Tarney was the lone batter to reach safely for Harlan). The overpowering senior right hander is averaging a strikeout and a half per inning pitched on the season and has a fierce 0.43 ERA.
The win puts Kuemper Catholic at 2-4 overall and 2-1 in Hawkeye-10 play. Harlan is now 6-3 overal and 4-1 in the conference. Despite the loss, Harlan got good pitching from Cale Stork who threw five innings without allowing a single hit. Stork walked four and gave up four runs but only one of the runs was earned. Derek Leinen pitched one scoreless inning allowing the games only hit and walking one.
