(Harlan) Harlan powered their way to a 4-2 start to the baseball season by pounding out a season best 11 hits in their 14-2 win against Atlantic Monday.
The Cyclones pounced on the opposition early on scoring five runs in the first inning. Nate Gettys, Adam Juhl, Jake Daeges, David Ratigan, and Nick Tarney all scored in the opening fram. Offense would be plentiful for Harlan against a short handed Atlantic squad. The Cyclones took a 6-0 lead into the third inning and then notched two more runs in the 4th. Their biggest inning came in the 5th when they batted around and scored six runs. Jake Daeges, David Ratigan, and Derek Leinen all went 2-3 at the plate. Junior leadoff man Nate Gettys stole five bases and scored four times.
Nick Kaufman improved to 3-0 on the mound this season. The junior threw four innings and allowed only two hits. His ERA for the year now sits at 1.40. Brett Croghan struck out the side in a 1-2-3 5th inning on the mound.
Harlan meets Creston in a doubleheader at Harlan Tuesday night. Both teams enter at 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
