(Oakland) They are only a handful of games into the season, but the Riverside Bulldogs have already matched their win total from each of the previous two seasons. With their three wins through the first five games the Bulldogs are feeling good about the start they are off to this season. It’s been quite a run this season for Riverside with teams qualifying for state in cross country, basketball, golf, and soccer. Coach Alex Oliver says all of that success is carrying over into the summer. After finishing 3-15 a year ago and 3-17 the year before, an enhanced off-season work ethic has also helped the early season success.
The Bulldogs are coming off of an exciting 7-6 win against Audubon on Monday night, a victory that saw the winning run score in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Ean Patrick scored all the way from first after two throwing errors following a bunt. Next up for the Bulldogs is a 6-5 Underwood squad that the team has struggled against in the past.
Statistically it has been the pitching that has stuck out so far this season for the Bulldogs. They have the 3-2 record despite hitting under .200 as a team offensively. They’ve made up for that with at team ERA of 2.67.
