(Des Moines) After southwest Iowa's Class 1A singles and double representatives combined to go undefeated in the first round of the girls state tennis tournament, the second round saw only one of the four advance to the semi-finals.
Each area entrent in singles heads to the back side of the bracket. Ellen Chalstrom, Ft. Dodge St. Edmond, defeated Ons Souissi, Glenwood, 6-4, 6-0 and Haley Resnick, Davenport Assumption, defeated Kate Walker, Red Oak, 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.
At the end of the day, Walker and Souissi each stayed alive with consolation wins.
In doubles, Zoey Baker and Grace Blomstedt of Red Oak, def., Francis/Engbers, Pella Christian, 6-1, 6-0, but Rachel Tucker and Grace Newman of Glenwood were defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Ott/Ott, Dubuque Wahlert.
Tucker and Newman bounced back with a consolation quarterfinals win over Schneden/Fennelly, Davenport Assumption, 7-6(1), 6-7(6), 1(5).
