(Audubon) The Wheeler girls golf team came short of the third place goal at the Class 2A State Tournament, but a 5th place finish in their second straight state appearance won't be leaving too sour of a taste in their mouth.
Audubon shot 375 on the first day and sat in 4th place, but were leapfrogged by Emmetsburg on the second day to end up finishing 5th. The team shot a 390 in what Coach Paul Lynch said were very wet and tough conditions on Wednesday in round two.
Scores that counted towards the team's 36-hole total of 765 were Susie Bylund's 171, Lexie Thygesen's 176, 193 from Faith Fliflet, and a 225 submitted by Teagan Albright.
Coach Lynch told KSOM/KS95.7 Sports following the state meet that they knew coming into the year that they had an opportunity to have a good season, but the team turned it into one of the better seasons he has ever coached.
