(Sioux City) Former Tri-Center multi-sport standout Monte Larsen had himself a big weekend at the NAIA National Championships for track and field.
The Morningside College senior anchored the national championship 4X800 Meter Relay which finished .20 away from a national meet record in 7:26.33. Larsen ran an anchor split of 1:50.8. Larsen’s time of 52.12 landed him third in the 400 Meter Hurdles. He added a fourth place finish in the open 800 with a time of 1:52.41.
The 2013 National Meet concludes a fantastic career for Larsen who originally went to Morningside to play basketball before switching to track and field. He was a part of seven school records and is a nine time all-American.
Larsen says he plans to continue training with the Morningside track team despite having no elibility remaining. His goal is to lower his 800 time by a couple of seconds to give himself an opportunity at running in the Olympic qualifying.
