CARROLL TOPS ATLANTIC IN EXTRA INNINGS


(Carroll) Peyton Rennings two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Carroll passed Atlantic 4-3 in a high school baseball game at Carroll Stadium Friday night.

 

The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on back to back two-baggers. Nate Obrien smacked a one out double and came home on Rennings two base pop to lead by a run after three. The Tigers tacked one more on in the bottom of the fourth on Kory Snyder’s sacrifice bunt that cleared the path for Kyle Christiansen, who got a on with a single and ended up at third on a Trojan error.

 

But, the Trojans tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Kray Lukehart reached base on an error, Brendon Holmes and Chad Christiansen popped out, Dalton Franken singled, and Logan Steffens knocked a two out double driving home Franken and Lukehart to tie the game at two a apiece.

 

Atlantic took a one run lead in the top of the eighth. Lukehart struck out, Holmes walked Chad Christiansen singled, but was picked off at first base. So with  two outs and Holmes at second, Dalton Franken hit a lazer into left field scoring Holmes to take a 3-2 lead.

 

But the Tigers bounced back in the bottom of the frame. Rennings clutch hit came with the bases loaded and two outs. Luke Vonnahme singled to start the inning and was tagged out at home on Corey Snyder’s base hit. Benjamin Wellendorf popped out, Jon Dvorak singled and Nate Obrien walked to load the bases with two outs and Renning, who finished the night with three RBI’s, drove home Snyder and Dvorak to win the game 4-3.

 

Renning finished the night with three hits and three RBI’s, Kory Snyder went two for three, and Luke Vonnahme, Nate Obrien, and Jon Dvorak each had singles for the Tigers now 2-2 on the season.

 

For Atlantic Chad Christiansen and Dalton Franken each had two hits on the night. Logan Steffens finished the contest one for three and two RBI’s, and Franken drove one run home for the 0-3 Trojans.
