(Waterloo) Red Oak senior Pete Walker is the number four seed in the singles field at this year's boys state tennis tournament and won his first round match 6-0, 6-0 against Ryan Hageman of Decorah. Walker won 6-2, 6-2 in the second round over Brandon Stoll of Spirit Lake. Walker advances to Saturday Morning's quarterfinal to play #1 seed Aaron Chalstrom from St. Edmond.
Red Oak junior Jordan Nelson lost 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to #3 seed Chad Moklested, of Boone. In the first round of the singles consolation bracket, Nelson stayed alive by beating Brett Walker of Cherokee 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(4).
In doubles, Atlantic's Tyler Fisher and Noah Welter advance to the front side of the bracket. They do so but topping LeMars duo of Elletson and Richardson 7-5, 6-1. Fisher and Welter got sent to the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Hornback and Anderson of Marion. Fisher and Welter eventually saw their careers come to an end with a loss to Noralk's Lavelle and Wright, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (6).
Heading to the consolation round in doubles will be Creston's Colby Taylor and Bryce McIlravy who lost 6-1, 7-6 to a team from St. Edmond (Averill and Laufersweller). Taylor and McIlravy were elinated in consolation play 6-1, 6-3 by Waterloo Columbus (Grams and Barnard)
Atlantic's Jake Arneson and Adam Weiser also lost their first round match. They fell 6-0, 6-4 to Hunter and Lonning from Decorah. Arneson and Weiser bowed out with a 6-4, 6-2 loss in their second match against Pella's Palmer and Van Maanen.
