MINUS TOPHAM, GRISWOLD GIRLS STILL DOMINANT ON HOME TRACK


(Griswold) Two-time defending Class 1A Girls State Champion Griswold totalled 201 points at their home meet on Thursday to add another team title to their list this season. Griswold won eight events and finished as the runner-up in seven others.

 

Highlight for the Tigers included Larissa Backhaus sweeping the sprinting events with wins in the 100, 200, and 400. Her winning times were 13.75, 29.12, and 1:04.95. Backhaus also anchored the victorious Sprint Medley where she teamed with Kayla Kirchoff, Marquel Brunk, and Justine Freund to run 2:01.10.

 

Jordyn Sindt contributed 34 points to the Tigers team total with a win in the 800 (2:34.69)and 2nd places in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:13.30), 1,500 (5:32.87) and 3,000 (12:14.24).

 

Justine Freund, Allison Young Leah Lappe, and Payton Rush teamed up to win the 4X400. Justine Freund, Jeana Freund, Trisha Huerta, and Kinzey Nicklaus won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay. Huerta, Brunk, Justine Freund, and Young made up the winning Distance Medley.

 

Jackie Rush placed 2nd in the shot put with a best throw of 34-10.5. Kinzey Nicklaus with a 17.95 placed 2nd in the 100 Meter Hurdles.

 

Griswold's team score of 201 was 72 points better than runner-up Shenandoah. Nodaway Valley finished third with 77. Underwood, Stanton, and Villisca rounded out the six team field.
