(Council Bluffs) The Harlan Cyclones basketball season continues in Des Moines next week after defeating Atlantic 52-43 in a Class 3A Sub-state final at Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln High School Monday night. Harlan Head Coach Mitch Osborn, coaching in his 23-substate game won his 17th   last night. That gives Osborn 17-state tournament appearances, the most in Iowa High School History.

 

The Cyclones, after losing to the Trojans twice during the regular season, led nearly the entire game ending Atlantic’s 19-game winning streak,

And the Cyclones flushed 14-14 free throws in the second half to put the game away.

The unranked Harlan Cyclones will head to the state tournament as an #8 seed and will square off against #1 seed Vinton-Shellsburg Tuesday afternoon, March 5. Coach Osborn says the key to the Cyclones post-season success is taking it one-game-at time.

The Trojans held brief leads of 5-2 early and 29-28 in the middle of the third quarter, otherwise the Cyclones held quarter leads of 11-7, 23-18, 30-29 and 52-43.

 

Trey Lansman led the Cyclones with 16-points, Nathan Cave added 12, and Adam Juhl and Gabe Ferry chipped in 10-each.

 

Sam Markham, Dalton Franken, and Chad Christiansen each scored 10-points to lead Atlantic.
