(Villisca) Villisca has qualified for the state girls basketball tournament for just the second time in school history. The Lady Jays upset 3rd ranked Bedford 57-50 to advance to state for the first time since 1968.
Morganne Hair and Jill Vanderhoof each scored 19 points in the win for a Villisca squad that improves to 20-4. They had lost to Bedford by 19 points in the regular season but turned that around when it counted in the regional final. Villisca shot (20/36) 55% as a team from the field in the win. They also sunk 15 of their 19 free throw attempts (78%).
Villisca will play 22-2 Newell-Fonda in the first round on Monday, February 25th at 10:00 a.m. In their final season before joining with Corning, the squad has won 6 straight games and 14 of their last 15.
