(Oakland) They say it's hard to beat a team three times in one season. That cliche happened to be pretty accurate when it came to the Class 1A District 14 boys basketball matchup between Griswold and Riverside Tuesday night.
Riverside had swept Griswold in the regular season winning two games by a combined 39 points, but Griswold made it a tight contest last evening. Riverside ultimately advanced with a 59-56 win. The three point win was the narrowest margin of victory for Riverside this season and just the second time all year that a win has come by less than ten points.
Ricky Williams senior season domination continued with 27 points and 20 rebounds. It was a 'quiet 27 and 20' according to his head coach Jason Schelangouski who says he knows the rest of the team is capable of stepping up when needed. He belieives their best basketball is ahead of them.
Riverside has won 10 straight games to improve to 21-1 on the season. They will take on a CAM squad that has a sub-.500 record. CAM picked up an exciting triple-overtime over AHST. The district semi-final between the Bulldogs and Cougars will be played Tuesday night in Oakland where Riverside is a perfect 12-0 this season.
