(Treynor) Treynor knocked down 10 three-pointers in a 24 point victory over Tri-Center in boys basketball Tuesday night. The Cardinals improve to 8-2 with the win and stay just one game back of Riverside in the WIC standings. Treynor and Riverside will go head to head on Friday night.
In the win over Tri-Center it was senior point guard Ryan Hempal stepping up offensively. Hempal knocked down four 3-pointers and tallied 18 points. Coach Scott Rucker says the key to Treynor's defense was limiting the supporting cast of Tri-Center. Britton Barrier led Tri-Center with 26 points, but Treynor was able to hold the rest of the Tri-Center players to just five second half points.
Coach Rucker says he expects a district-final or sub-state type atmosphere in Treynor on Friday night as they welcome undefeated Riverside into their home gym. He looks back to the first meeting between the squads this season, an 11 point loss for his team, and says his squad wasn't ready to win a big game like that considering they had five new starters. A Treynor win would create a tie for first place in the conference standings.
