(Atlantic) Atlantic flew by the Denison Monarch’s early enroute to a 72-56 win Friday night in a Hawkeye Ten Conference boy’s basketball game.
The Trojans jumped out to a 15-2 first half run. Dalton Franken provided the hot hand scoring nine of the Trojans first 15-points. Franken ended the night with 21.
Parker Eller kept the Monarchs within arms length in the first half with 2-three pointers to bring them within eight, 20-12 after one quarter. Eller would end the night with a season high 18-points.
But the Trojans were able to keep their foot on the gas for most of the game and extended their lead to 40-26 at the half, 51-33 after three quarters and led by as many as 20-points in the second half to finish with a 72-56 win.
The Trojans used several different defenders on the Monarch’s league leading scorer Derek Hall. Hall averaging 19-points was held to just 11 on the night. Zach Johnson and Spencer Pauley chipped 11-points each.
Besides Franken’s 21-points, three other Trojan players finished in double figures. Sam Markham scored 14, Harrison Hoegh added 12, Stuart Hoegh knocked in 11-points and Chad Christiansen chipped in 9.
Atlantic extends their record to 8-1 and 6-1 in conference play. The Monarch’s record goes to 4-4 and 3-3 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
