(Elk Horn) After going to the state tournament two years ago and to sub-state last year the Exira-EHK Spartan boys basketball team has experienced a slow start to the 2012-13 season. Several factors have contributed to the team's sluggish start from a deep run into the football season to injuries to inexperience.
Spartan head coach Doug Newton points to the team's outside shoot as one key area that needs to improve. Newton notes that a higher percentage from the outside will help open things up on the inside.
Despite having two road games this week the Spartans will get a couple of good opportunities to secure their first win. The road trips include Orient-Macksburg on Tuesday and Iowa Christian Academy on Friday. The combined record of those two opponents is 1-7.
