(Greenfield) Coming off of a trip to the Class 1A State Tournament a year ago, the Nodaway Valley Wolverines enter this season ranked in the top 10 in 2A by the Sports Spotlight.


Friday night's win over East Union may propel the team even higher in the rankings. Nodaway Valley put up 96 points while allowing only 14. The defense collected 28 steals led by Brad Baudler with 7 and Alex Welsch with 6. Those two seniors both finished with outstanding stat lines on the night. Baudler scored 24 points on 10-20 shooting with 5 assists and 7 steals. Alex Welsch, who scored 26 in the season opening win over Clarinda, finished the win against East Union with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 6 blocked shots, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Dan Ehrsam (18) and Tim Hansen (11) also reached double figure scoring on Friday night.


Nodaway Valley allowed only 1 first quarter point and led 53-9 at halftime. The veteran group is 2-0 with both wins coming on the road. Their first home game will come on Tuesday, December 4th against 1-1 Lenox.
