A.L. ROLLS PAST ATLANTIC IN SEASON OPENER

(Council Bluffs) Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln’s first quarter run lifted them past Atlantic in a girl’s basketball opener 67-37, Tuesday night at the A.L. Field house.

The Lynx jumped out to a 22-0 first quarter lead leaving Atlantic with a huge mountain to climb. The Trojanns came out in the second quarter and outscored A.L. 8-2 thanks to senior forward Shelby Worth’s two three-pointers and a duece, but couldn't close the gap enough to catch the sprinting Lynx, who held a 30-13 first half lead.

A.L. kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third quarter outscoring the Trojanns 17-8 and cruised to the finish line on an 18-16  fourth quarter run spoiling any chance for the Trojanns to make a dramatic comeback.

Lauren Meeker led (1-0), A.L. with 13-points and Delaney Bolton and Taylor Volentine finished the night with 11-each.

Shelby Worth led Atlantic with 10-points, eight of those coming in the first half. Ashley Walker chipped in nine points for the 0-1, Trojanns.

Atlantic will begin preparation for Monday night’s home opener against non-conference foe Carroll High.
