(Cedar Falls) Tyler Odneal scored 2-touchdowns and rushed for 142-yards to lead Wapsie Valley past Hinton, 21-14 to claim the Class A state football title.

It was Wapsie Valleys’ ground game against the passing attack of Hinton that won out in the game that kicked off at 1:36 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The Warriors piled up 170-yards on the ground to Hinton’s 30. But, the Blackhawks aerial attack kept them in the game outdistancing Wapsie Valley 210-yards to 111.

Both teams headed to the locker room at half all knotted up at 7-7, and with the score still tied late in the 3rd quarter, Odneal broke the tie on a 50-yard run to give the Warriors a 14-7 lead.

The Blackhawks came right back and mounted a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by a J. Vander Kool 6-yard pass to Morgan Wenzel to tie the game at 14-14, after the PAT. But Wapsie Valley had the final say... with 1:39 left in the game, Stone Kane scored on a 1 yd run that finished off a 9 play, 80 yard drive, to keep the Warriors perfect season in tack, at (14-0).

Hinton finished the season as the Class State runner-up at (10-4).
