(Atlantic) The Atlantic/CAM Wrestling team headed to the wrestling room this week in preparation for the 2012-2013 season. The Trojans lost five key seniors to graduation who had combined for some 480-wins in their four year careers. But there are still a few horses left in the stable. Eight wrestlers return this season with varsity experience.
The Trojans finished with an impressive 22-2 record, and a fourth place finish at the State Dual Tournament. Atlantic Coach Tim Duff says the main focus will be to improve and continue to develop wrestlers and that will carry on the tradition.
Among the 8-returning varsity wrestlers are Tyler Stork, who had 34-wins and 20-pins last season and came up one match short of making the state tournament. Matthew Williamson, (pictured), with 91-career victories returns to the mat, and Jordan Mauk, who was inactive last year because of an illness is back out this season.
There are four juniors returning including; Tyler Christiansen, (28-21) last season, along with Cal Heuton, and 2-time state medal winner Darrian Schwenke, who finished the 2011-2012 campaign with a 37-3 record. Also returning is much improved Dillon Cox, after posting an impressive 37-11 record during the 2011-2012 campaign. And Sophomores Reid Nichols and Matt Smith return this season after going 32-18 and 29-20 respectively a year ago.
The Trojans open up the season November 29th at Audubon for a quadrangular with Audubon, Griswold and CSD.
