(Harlan) Harlan Community High School Cross Country Coach Doug Renkly has been named the Class 3A Girls At-Large Cross Country Coach of the Year by the Iowa Track Coaches Association.

This past season the Harlan girl’s team qualified for the State Cross Country meet for the 9th Straight year and finished 5th place out of 14-teams in the Class 3A State meet. Four Cyclone runners finished in the top 40 in the team placing, including Jessica Feldman’s 6th place finish.

The Harlan Girls won the State Qualifying meet with 74-points with two runners finishing in the top ten. They also captured the Hawkeye Ten Conference Cross Country title with 33-points while landing five runners in the top thirteen.

Five Coaches from across the State in each Class are awarded Coach of the Year Honors and one coach is named overall State Coach of the Year. Griswold Head Coach Jane Chaillie was named Class 1A Coach of the year after leading her team to a Class 1A title last month. Rebekka Topham, a Sophomore, also captured her second straight state cross country title as well.
