(Cedar Rapids) Council Bluffs St. Albert rallied from a 12-5 fifth-set deficit to advance to the Class 2A semifinals with a 27-25, 21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13 victory over West Branch in at the Iowa Girls State Volleyball Tournament Thursday night.


Kylie Ferguson had 21 kills, seven aces and 12 digs to lead the Saintes. Alli Wettengal added 14 kills while Katie Kuck had 32 digs. The victory was the first state volleyball tournament win in school history for the Saintes, who improve to 29-10.

West Branch, making its first-ever State appearance, was led by Heather Poula’s 16 kills. The Bears end the season with a 36-5 record.


Council Bluffs St. Albert faces top-ranked Dike-New Hartford in the Class 2A semifinals at 5:15 p.m. Friday on Court One.
