(Coon Rapids-Bayard) The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders are moving onto the second round of the playoffs where they will meet Exira-EHK.
Some may have wondered how Coon-Rapids Bayard, as a #3 seed, was able to go on the road and beat defending state champion Fremont-Mills. Here's how: the Crusaders threw the ball and threw it well. Quarterback Keaton Schlatter hurled the ball 53 times completing 26 of his attempts for 386 yards and 6 TD's. Schlatter has shown in the past that he is capable of putting up big numbers, he passed for 437 yards with 7 touchdowns against Grandview Park Baptist. On Wednesday night at Fremont-Mills Caylor Deeth, Spencer Whinnett, and Brendan McAlister all finished with over 100 yards and at least one touchdown receiving.
Coon Rapids-Bayard's defense also came to play forcing four turnovers. McAlister picked off two passes while Zach Evans had a fumble recovery and a pick.
The Crusaders improve to 7-4 on the season heading into a rematch with unbeaten Exira-EHK.
