(Harlan) Harlan head coach Curt Bladt commented before the Creston/OM game that his team was entering the most difficult part of their schedule. They found that out the hard way Friday night with a 34-14 loss in Creston.
The Panthers raced out early to a 13-0 lead only to see Harlan take the advantage 14-13 by halftime. After the break it was all Creston/OM, as the Panthers took a 20-14 lead with 3:41 left in the third. The defending district champions tacked on two fourth quarter touchdowns to win it 34-14.
Harlan struggled to establish the running game, they were let by Anthony Hopkins 37 yards on 15 carries. In the passing department Adam Juhl hit seven different targets on his way to 225 yards but also tossed three interceptions. Nate Kloewer had a big night in the loss with four catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss there were some impressive defensive efforts for the Cyclones. Jeff Flies (20), Nick Kornischuck (17), Adam Zaccone (15), Connor Clayton (12), and Shawn Schaben (10) all finished in double figures in tackles.
Harlan's first district loss does not drop them in the district standings as ADM also lost. Lewis Central, ADM, Creston/OM, and Harlan all have one loss in the district. The Cyclones host Lewis Central, travel to Atlantic, and host ADM to finish out the regular season.
