(Stuart) St. Albert leads Class 1A District 8 with a 4-0 District mark, but if the Falcons experience an unforeseen stumble there are three teams lurking right behind. Those teams with one district loss are Panorama, Tri-Center, and West Central Valley. West Central Valley may be the biggest surprise of the bunch coming off of their 3-6 showing in 211. The Wildcats are a team that ended last season on a five game losing streak, but flipped the switch when the calendar turned to 2012.
West Central Valley has quickly flushed away the taste of last year's 3-6 campaign with a 4-2 start this season. Most recently it was a 50-14 win over Missouri Valley. Ryan Joint, Clayton Scott, and Tanner Ruhland all intercepted a pass in the win which was the Wildcats second straight victory.
An extemely balanced running game has been a key to the turnaround. Five different Wildcats have run for at least 200 yards this season. In the Week 6 win against Missouri Valley it was Chris Irlmeier and Alex Arnburg who stood out. Irlmeier went for 118 yards on only 6 carries and had 2 touchdowns. Arnburg scored three times on 8 carries for 95 yards.
It will likely take all nine weeks of the regular season before playoff seeds are determined. The Wildcats oppose Panorama this week and Tri-Center in Week 9.
