(Creston) A head to head matchup in Week 9 between Harlan and Creston/Orient-Macksburg determined the Class 3A District 1 title last season. Creston-OM won that game but Harlan got the last laugh with a deeper playoff run.
This year the two teams meet up in a Week 6 game that probably won’t determine the District Champion, but will have a big impact on both teams’ chances heading into the season’s final three weeks. Creston-OM head coach Brian Morrison downplays any thought that Harlan will be looking to return the favor after last year. Instead the Panthers are just focusing on the same thing they do every week, which is bettering themselves.
One of the things that set Creston-OM apart in their district championship last year was the play of their offensive and defensive lines. Controlling the line of scrimmage is a major emphasis for Coach Morrison and he says the team remains strong in that area.
At this point in the season either Creston-OM or Harlan could win the district title and/or either one could end up missing the playoffs. ADM and Harlan are the lone unbeatens in Class 3A District 1. Lewis Central and Creston-OM have each lost one district game and Atlantic is hanging in the race with two district losses.
