(Harlan) The Harlan Cyclone volleyball team is ranked 4th in Class 4A and they own a 15-3 record heading into their battle with Class 3A #14 Clarinda Tuesday.
Coming off of their state tournament appearance last year Harlan is the most highly ranked team in a Hawkeye 10 Conference that has half of its members in the top 15 of either Class 2A, 3A, or 4A. Even with all of the success of this still very young group, coach Angie Spangenburg says the team still has a long ways to go before they realize their full potential.
This week the Cyclone’s lone match is at Clarinda, a team that the Cyclones downed 2-0 on their way to an unbeaten showing at last weekend’s Red Oak Tournament.
Harlan’s sophomore class is loaded with talent. Sophomore Jess Schaben ranks third in the state in kills, Sophomore Kenzie Swanson is 4th in the conference in assists, and Sophomore Asia Kloewer is 2nd in the Hawkeye 10 in digs.
Since dropping a five set match to Lewis Central two weeks ago, Harlan hasn’t dropped a single set in their six match winning streak.
