(Council Bluffs) Lewis Central's fourth quarter offensive burst was enough to turn Atlantic away 38-20 in a Class 3a District 1 football game Friday night.
Lewis Central scored on four big plays and ground out 300-yards rushing on the night. Alex Reed led the Titans on the ground with just over 100-yards, but left the game late in the second quarter with an injury and did not return.
Atlantic marched 69-yards on their opening drive capped by a 23-yard touchdown pass from Harrison Hoegh to Sam Markham, to give Trojans a 7-0 nothing lead. But that would be their only lead of the game.
The Titans scored 21 unanswered points. Austin Simmons hit Mark Savage on a 30-yard TD strike, Alex Reed broke open for a 60-yard TD run, and Sophomore Quarterback Austin Simmons found Luke Harrison wide open for a 30-yard touchdown pass. Atlantic closed the gap to 21-14 late in the 2nd quarter on a Jacob Dvorak 1-yard run to end the first half.
In the fourth quarter Lewis Central gained a 24-14 advantage on a Caleb Shudak 23-yard field goal. However, Atlantic came back to score on a Harrison Hoegh one yard run that left the score at 24-20. But Lewis Central came charging back with 14 unanswered points on an Austin Simmons 25-yard run, and a Sam Duggan to Mark Savage 25-yard pass to seal the 38-20 victory.
Atlantic quarterback Harrison Hoegh finished the night 23-34, for 334-yards passing. Sam Markham caught 9 of those passes for 183-yards and one touchdown.
Atlantic goes to 2-2 on the year; Lewis Central extends their record to 4-0.
