(Elk Horn) Tomorrow night (Friday) the Exira-EHK Spartans will play their first eight-player football game since 2009. Coach Tom Petersen admits it was a more difficult adjustment to move from 8-player to 11-player football, but says there are still some things to get used to such as the narrower width of the field.
A big key for the Spartans in Week 1 will be containing Boyer Valley quarterback Michael Hanigan who combined for nearly 1,900 yards last season. Coach Petersen believes his team has the players to do the job saying it's the fastest team he's had in six or seven years.
On offense Exira-EHK will be breaking in a new quarterback. Sophomore Drew Peppers will run what is expected to be a very run heavy offense. Leading rushers Trey Sander and Nick Peppers return in the backfield and will also take snaps under center.
