(Audubon) After a 2-7 finish in 2011, the Audubon football team enters the 2012 season with a youthful group, but they also move into a new class and new district. The Wheelers compete for the next two years in Class A District 7.
Coach Monte Reibhoff says the natural tendency of moving down a class would be to think that the schedule gets easier, but he also notes that three of the state's top 7 Class A teams are in Audubon's district.
Audubon will be young this season particularly in the offensive line and at quarterback. Sophomore Trevor Smith will take over the offense and should have several options to throw to including Colby Rattenborg who returns as the team's leading receiver after averaging 27.3 yards per catch as a sophomore.
The defense may be a strength of the team. The Wheelers bring back several starters from last season including the bulk of their secondary.
Audubon's first game will be on August 24th against Riverside.
