(Treynor) Two longtime Treynor coaches received national honors earlier this week. Gail Hartigan, Head Girls Basketball and Track Coach and former Volleyball Coach was inducted into the National Coaches Association Hall of Fame Tuesday in Fargo, North Dakota. Treynor Assistant Girls Basketball Coach Jo Ellen Travis was named Assistant Coach of the year.
Gail Hartigan, 59, became the 13th coach in Iowa girls basketball history and first female to win 600 games last winter. Her current win-loss record is 601-156. In her 31-year career, Hartigan led her teams to 13 Iowa High School Girls State Tournaments.
As Treynor’s Head Track Coach her teams have won 19-Western Iowa Conference Track titles.
Hartigan’s win-loss record in volleyball is equally impressive. The former Head Coach finished her career with a 490-112 win/loss record from 1991 to 2006. Twelve of her teams qualified for the State Volleyball Tournament.
Jo Ellen Travis is also the Head Softball Coach and led Treynor to a Class 2A State Tournament Title on July 20. The honor of Assistant Coach of the Year is based of years of service, team records and accolades, and community involvement.
