(Maryville) A southwest Iowa native will be enshrined into the Northwest Missouri State Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.
He played high school football at Cumberland-Massena before becoming a three time first team all-conference performer, that’s Randy Euken, who played for the Bearcats from 1971-1974. Jim Redd was Euken’s offensive line coach and says they knew they had someone good when they landed Euken.
In 1972 Euken helped lead Northwest Missouri State to their first conference championship in 20 years. They also won the conference title during Euken’s senior season of 1974. Coach Redd refers to Euken as a coach on the field and says it’s rare for an offensive lineman to receive this high of an honor.
Euken helped paved the way for a 1,000 yard rusher three straight years and tried out for the Atlanta Falcons where Coach Redd recalls that Euken had the opportunity to play in a couple of exhibition games.
A ceremony will be held November 2nd at the JW Jones Student Union Ballroom to honor this years Hall of Fame Class that includes six athletes and two conference championship teams.
