(Coon Rapids) Audubon moves on to the 2nd round of the Class 1A District Baseball Tournament with a 7-1 over Ar-We-Va on Tuesday.
The Wheelers jumped off to an early lead and were in control the entire game. Audubon leadoff batter Colby Rattenborg singled in the top of the first, advanced to second on a Blair Kerkhoff groundout, and scored on a Riley Jensen RBI bloop single to right field. The Wheelers kept the pressure on with three more runs in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. Riley Jones reached on a one out walk and Andy Hoffman and Kolton Jensen eached singled to load the bases. A Rattenberg sacrifice fly scored Jones while Hofmann and Kolton Jensen each scored scored on fly ball that was dropped in left field. With the early cushion, Audubon switched to Colby Rattenborg (pictured) on the mound after getting two scoreless inning of one hit ball from starter Andrew Irlmeier. Rattenborg would close the door on Ar-We-Va allowing just one run on one hit and three walks. Audubon’s lead ballooned to 7-0 before Ar-We-Va came through with their lone run on a bases loaded walk in the 4th. Both teams went scoreless through the final three innings.
Eight of the nine Audubon starters reached base on the night and Wheelers picked up eleven hits.
Audubon is 14-10 overall this season and they will play again on Thursday.
