(Atlantic) It’s been nearly a decade since an Atlantic softball has gotten out of a first round tournament game. The Trojanns not only won one game in the tourney, they came victorious in two games are heading to the Regional Finals Monday night in Adel.
The Atlantic Trojanns defeated Clarinda on Tuesday 15-5 in a regional quarterfinal, Friday night beating Red Oak 6-3. The Trojanns are just one game away from the state tournament.
Atlantic jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Tiara Edelman’s RBI single.
The Trojanns then put Red Oak at arms length in the bottom of the fourth with four runs on three hits to take a 5-0 lead. Alisha Hinzeman singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch, Molly Walter singled and scored, Leah Tjepkes was hit by a pitch and scored, and Reann CappelCappel plated the fourth run on Marissa Bern’s RBI single.
The Trojanns final run came in the top of the sixth inning, Reann Cappel singled and scored on a wild pitch.
Red Oak didn’t go down easy. The Tigers plated three runs in the of the 7th on a Lexie Holmgren solo homerun, Grace Blomsted singled and Miranda Gowdy reached base on an error and scored on Gabi French’s two RBI double. But that would be it for the Tigers.
Marissa Berns pitched the win for Atlantic striking out 6, walking 2 and allowed two runs on four hits.
The (23-18) Trojanns advance to the Regional Finals at Adel on Monday night to take on Bondarant-Farrar.
