(Walnut) The Walnut Warrior softball team is off to one of their best starts in recent memory following their 9-3 win over Adair-Casey last night.
Walnut pitcher Ashli Walker struck out nine Adair-Casey batters while only allowing five hits and two walks. Walnut trailed 1-0 after the top of the first inning but didn’t take long to respond scoring two runs in the 1st, two more in the 2nd, and three in the 3rd. Sophomores Emily Mitchell and Ashli Walker each scored two runs and had two hits for the Warriors who collected eight hits on the night.
Walnut held a 7-1 lead after three inning and Adair-Casey clawed back to as close as four with runs from Liz Mulder in the fourth and Katie Clarke in the fifth, but walnut once again answered back with single runs in the 5th and 6th to win in 9-3. Jess Eblen (pictured) struck out two batters but gave up eight hits to take the loss for Adair-Casey.
Walnut moves to 9-2 on the year while Adair-Casey is 0-5.
