(Atlantic) In a game that aired on KS95.7 FM Tuesday night, Atlantic topped Kuemper Catholic 3-2 behind a standout pitching performance from Gunnar Blum. The senior left-hander struck out fifteen batters while walking five and allowing five hits in the complete game victory.
Blum would also go 3-3 at the plate including a base hit to left field in the first inning of a two out rally that gave the Trojan's a 1-0 lead early on. Kuemper Catholic's two runs in the game each came in the fourth inning when the Knights used a walk, a hit, and two Atlantic throwing errors to score their runs. Atlantic would answer back in the bottom of the fifth when leadoff hitter Christian Holzaphel reached base on an error and was driven in on a Blum RBI single. Blum's courtesy runner Logan Steffens would eventually come around to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
Junior Bryce Wessels was the tough-luck loser for Kuemper Catholic (2-2, 0-1). Wessels allowed three walks and six hits while striking out nine batters in six innings.
Atlantic moves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Hawkeye 10. The Trojans have three road games to close out the week starting with Nodaway Valley on Wednesday.
