(Harlan) Harlan Community High School has announced the coaching replacements for head girls soccer and girls basketball positions after the resignation of Tony Vis who has accepted the head girls basketball and assistant girls soccer positions at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Jared Boysen was hired as a high school math teacher back in April and has been named the head girls’ soccer coach for the 2012-13 school year. Jared is a 2006 graduate of Harlan Community and was a starter for the 2006 state qualifying boys soccer team at HCHS. He was also a starter on the state champion football and basketball teams in 2006.
Zach Klaassen has been promoted to the head girls’ basketball position for the 2012-13 school year. Zach has been the varsity assistant girls basketball coach the last two years and was a volunteer assistant boys basketball coach four years before moving into the full time position of varsity girls assistant coach. Zach is currently teaching Industrial Technology and is just completing his 7th year at Harlan Community. Zach is just completing his 2nd year as head girls golf coach and has also been assistant girl/boy cross country coach for the last 6 years. Coach Klaassen has also been Middle school girls & boys basketball coaches during his tenure at HCHS. Zach graduated from Pomeroy/Palmer in 1998 and suited up as a freshman for the 1995 Class IA State Runner-up basketball team and was a starter for the 1997 state qualifying basketball team.
Mark Kohorst will be moving up from 9th grade to varsity girls assistant for the 2012-13 school year.
These new hires are pending Harlan Community school board approval.
