(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK is off to a hot start to the 2012 regular season. The Spartans are 2-0 with wins over AHST and Audubon. Wednesday night's 10-6 victory against the Wheelers gave the Spartans a 12 game regular season winning streak.
After falling behind 5-2 after the second inning, the Exira-EHK bats came to life in the bottom of the third. Catcher Beck Benton and shortstop Taber Anderson hit back-to-back solo home runs in a three run 3rd inning to to give the Spartans the lead at 6-5. Exira-EHK extended the lead to 8-5 in the fourth when Seniors Spencer Smith and Dayton Rasmussen each walked and scored runs. Some insurance runs came in the sixth when Nolan Parker hit a two run homerun to extend the lead to 10-5.
Audubon cut the gap to 10-6 in the top of the 7th when Riley Jones blasted a solo homer to center field.
On the mound, Tyler Jacobsen earned the win. He came on to relieve starter Dayton Rasmussen in the 2nd inning and struck out 9 batters over 4 1/3 innings.
Exira-EHK improves to 2-0 with a matchup with Boyer Valley coming up on Thursday. Audubon falls to 0-2.
