(Atlantic) Iowa High School Track and Field participants will compete today to keep their seasons alive. State qualifying meets are slated across the state including a Class 3A CO-ED state qualifying meet in Atlantic. Trojann head coach Bruce Henderson says the top two finishers automatically qualify, and the next eight fastest times in each event.

The Harlan girls track team is coming off of a Hawkeye Ten Conference Championship but will be challenged by Creston tonight for the meet title according to head coach Bill Hosack.

The meet starts at 4:00 p.m., and there are a number of the state's best in the field today, including, Derek Jones of Glenwood, who ranks 3rd in the 200 and 400-meters, and 2nd in the 400 meter low hurdles. Tyler Hovey of Atlantic is ranked 3rd in the discus and 5th in the shot put. Creston's Brandon Phipps is ranked 4th in the 3200 and Harlan's Shuttle Hurdle relay team is ranked 5th. Harlan's Austin Hess has the fastest time in the 110 Meter High Hurdles.
In the girls, Ali Krogman of Atlantic has the 7th fastest time in the 3,000, Harlan and Creston are ranked 5th and 8th respectively in the Sprint Medley, Harlan has the 6th best time in the 4X800, and the 3rd fastest time in the 4X400. Denison-Schleswig is 4th fastest in the 4X200, Carroll is 7th best in the 4X100, Abby Sonderman of Harlan is ranked 6th in the discus. Brianna Maitlin of Creston is 2nd best in the Long Jump coming into the meet and her teammate Audry Bollinger has the fastest 3A time in the 400 meter lows in 1:05.21 going itno tonight's meet.
