(Audubon) Griswold just didn't have the numbers to overcome Treynor at Tuesday's Western Iowa Conference track meet in Audubon. Treynor tallied 147 to win their second straight conference championship. Griswold's best effort netted them a runner up 132 points.
As expected, two-time Drake Relays champion Rebekah Topham won four individual events. The superstar freshman crossed the finish line first in the 3,000, 1,500, 400, and 400 Meter Hurdles. While Topham often snags the headlines, several other Tigers had huge nights.
Fellow freshman Alyx Flippen finished right behind Topham to place second in both the 3,000 and 1,500. Flippen also ran along with Trisha Huerta, Justine Fruend and Jordan Sindt on the winning Distance Medley Relay.
Junior Larissa Backhaus placed second in the 400 and 4X400. She also placed third in the 800 and Sprint Medley Relay.
Junior Jordyn Sindt anchored the winning Distance Medley. Additionally, Sindt placed 2nd in both the 800 and 4X400 Meter Relay.
After the meet Griswold girls track coach Andy Everett commented that the Tigers scored as many points as they could, saying they just didn't have the depth to catch Treynor.
