(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys soccer squad improves to 2-1 on the season with an overtime win over Tri-Center on Thursday evening in Atlantic. Atlantic outlasted their opponents in a shootout to win by a final of 4-1.
Tri-Center struck first when freshman Zach Denning scored with 31:29 left in the opening half. Atlantic responded at the 16:26 mark in the first half with a Matt Smith goal that was set up by a corner kick assist by senior Derek Von Seggern.
With the scored tied at one after two overtimes, Tri-Center missed all three of their penatly kicks while Atlantic succeeded on three of their four attempts. Cody Kirchhoff made the first overtime kick followed by Dakota Watson (above). Junior Harrison Hoegh (right) sealed the win.
Both Hoegh and Watson mentioned in the postgame that the team displayed very good passing.
The win moves Atlantic one game above .500 through their first three games. Watson noted it was the first time they have defeated Tri-Center in his four years. The Trojans of Atlantic will take on the Riverside Bulldogs coming up next Friday night (4/13).
