(Atlantic) Atlantic held off Red Oak Monday night in a Class 3A boys District Semi-final at Atlantic Monday night, 47-40.
The Tigers lead 13-12 after one quarter, but the Trojans mounted a 5-0 second quarter run to take the lead and keep Red Oak at arms length the remainder of the game. Atlantic held a 22-17 lead at the break, 38-31 after three quarters, before finishing the night 47-40. Blake Esbeck knocked down three key three point shots down the stretch to help the cause for Atlantic.
Dalton Franken led all scorers for the Trojans with 16-points. The 6’6 junior also reached a major milestone scoring his 1000th career point halfway through the first quarter. He now has 1011-points for his career. Blake Esbeck finished the night with 12-points, Sam Markham scored 7, Harrison Hoegh chipped in 5, and Chad Christensen added 4 for Atlantic now 19-3 on the season.
Red Oak was led by Peter Walker with 11-points, Tanner Johnson knocked down 10, Andy Vial scored 6-points, and Jose Perez and Ryan Lenninger chipped in 2-each. The Tigers end their season with a 5-16 record.
The Trojans face a three match with Harlan in a district title at Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln Thursday night.
