(Atlantic) Atlantic escaped Denison 61-58 at Atlantic Tuesday night. And with a little help from Creston took a one game lead in the Hawkeye Ten Conference boy’s basketball race. That drops the Cardinals to 9-3, and Atlantic extends their conference mark to 10-2, and 16-3 overall. The Trojans control their own destiny now heading into their final regular season game Friday night at Creston. A win would give the Trojans the outright Conference Title.

Despite, a cold shooting night, Atlantic was able to hold off the Monarch’s who fought back from a ten point deficit in the first half. The Trojans held quarter leads of 10-7, and 25-22, before relinquishing the lead to the Monarchs in the third quarter 42-40.

It was Gunnar Blum’s (pictured) two close range buckets, and Dalton Franken’s free throw shooting down the stretch that saved the Trojans. Franken ended the night with 18-points and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Gunnar Blum scored 16-points, and Chad Christensen finished up with 12.

Austin Eller led the Monarch’s with 19-points, and Zac Johnson scored 15.
