(Oakland) The top two boys teams in the Western Iowa Conference standings will square off Friday night in Oakland.
16-2 Riverside takes on 18-0 Treynor tonight. Top ten ranked Treynor defeated Riverside 51-45 in early January, but the Bulldogs can tie up the conference race with a win on Friday. Riverside coach Jason Shelangouski says his team is confident that Treynor is beatable and that they can be the team to hand the Cardinals their first loss.
Riverside has gone on a season-long nine game winning streak since their loss to Treynor on January 6th. Junior Ricky Williams is averaging 26.6 points per game and 12 rebounds per game over the past two weeks but Coach Shelangouski says it’s not just Williams who has played better late in the season. Ean Patrick is coming off of a 7-10 shooting performance.
Friday nights game will be the second of what could very likely be three meetings between these teams this season. Treynor is the #1 seed in Class 1A District 1 while Riverside is the #2 seed. The District tournament for Class 1A begins Monday, February 13th.
