(Atlantic) The Atlantic boy’s basketball team overcame a 9-point third quarter deficit to defeat Kuemper, Catholic, Carroll 49-46, Tuesday night at Atlantic.
The Trojans put together a 9-0 run that was sparked by a Chad Christensen three-point shot, Harrison Hoegh’s 9-second half points, and Dalton Franken’s two-key free throws; with 45-seconds to play. Franken, averaging 19-points a game, lead all scorers with 18-points. Chad Christensen ended the night with 7-points, Stuart Hoegh posted 6-points, Blake Esbeck (pictured) chipped in five, and Sam Markham and Mitch Lieferman each scored 2-points for the 11-2 Trojans.
The Knights held leads of 15-14, 29-24, and 42-38, but couldn’t hold off the Trojans in the end. Chris Halbur and David Hicks each finished the game with 10-points.
Kuemper’s record falls to 12-4, Atlantic, who has won 6-out-7 post Christmas Holiday contests extend their record to 11-2 on the season, and a tie for first place with Clarinda atop the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
The Trojans host St. Albert, Thursday night in a re-scheduled non-conference game that will be played at the middle school, with tip-off slated for 7:30. The game will be broadcast on 95.7 F.M. Pre-game starts at 7:10.
