(Denison) Atlantic cut off a late rally by Denison/Schleswig Friday night in a Hawkeye Ten Conference boy’s game basketball at Denison. The Trojans held quarter leads of 19-10, 36-24, and 44-31 before ending the contest with a 61-54 win.
Atlantic’s biggest lead was 18-points, but the Monarchs outscored the Trojans 17-6 to start the fourth quarter and came within two twice. The Trojans came up with some plays late in the game to seal the deal. Sam Markham had a couple of layups and Chad Christensen snagged a key rebound late in the game and sank two free throws to keep Denison/Schleswig at bay.
Austin Eller lead all scorers for Denison/Schleswig with 20-points, Derek Hall chipped in 15. Thirteen of Hall’s points were scored in the second half.
Dalton Franken lead Atlantic in scoring with 19-points, Sam Markham scored 16, and Gunnar Blum chipped in 10.
(6-2) Atlantic takes on Norwalk at home tonight. We will have the broadcast on 95.7 F.M.
Afterwards Atlantic Head Coach Steve Blazek.
