(Council Bluffs) Lewis Central’s second quarter run was enough to edge Atlantic 76-74 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference boys basketball game at Council Bluffs Tuesday night.
Atlantic lead 13-11 after the first quarter, but couldn’t hold the Titans down in the second quarter. Lewis Central rattled off a 13-4 run outscoring the Trojans 20-15. Atlantic ended the quarter with an 11-3 run, thanks to two key three pointers by Trojan Point Guard Chad Christiansen and Gunnar Blum layup to end the second quarter.
Atlantic would tie the game only once in the third quarter, (38-38), but foul trouble kept the Trojans from getting over the hump. The Trojans top two scorers Dalton Franken and Sam Markham both fouled out of the game, and Gunnar Blum and Chad Christiansen finished out the contest with 4-fouls each. Lewis Central would finish the game 29-of-41 from the free throw line, while Atlantic went 15-of-19.
Dalton Franken, made 10-of-11 free throws and lead the Trojans in scoring with 22-points. Gunnar Blum finished the game with 18-points, and Chad Christiansen chipped in 14-point including 4-three pointers.
Lewis Central was lead by Josiah Sheppard’s 24, Matt Andersen scored 16, and Alex Reed added 13-points, despite connecting on only 1-field goal.
Lewis Central extends their record to 5-3, Atlantic falls to 5-2. The Trojans travel to Denison on Friday night. The game will be broadcast on 95.7 F.M.
