(Atlantic) Dalton Franken's game winning layup sealed it the victory for Atlantic at Kuemper in a Hawkeye Ten Conference Boys basketball game Friday night.
Chris Halbur's second free throw with fifteen seconds to play tied the game at 57-57. Atlantic point guard Chad Christiansen directing the half court offense with 10-seconds left dished a pass to Gunnar Blum on the left side of the key. Blum took the pass dribbled down the left side of the block and bounced the ball to Dalton Franken streaking down the right side of the lane for the layup and the 59-57 victory.
Franken (pictured in a win at Red Oak earlier in the season) lead the Trojans scorers with 18, Chad Christiansen had 13, Harrison Hoegh finished with 9, Sam Markham and Gunnar Blum scored 8-points, and Blake Esbeck ended the night with 3-points.
The knights held quarter leads of 13-10, and 29-26, but Atlantic out scored Kuemper 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 41-36 lead into the final period. The Trojans led by as many as 9-points in the fourth quarter before Kuemper scratched and clawed their way back into the game. Halbur put the game into a deadlock with a free throw with 15-seconds left to tie it at 57-57, before Franken layed it in off the glass for the win.
Carter Daniel led Kuemper with 18-points, and David Hicks who was averaging 18-points a game was held to 8-points. Riley Bach had 9-points, Brian Dentlinger and Chris Halbur each finished with 7, and Sam Brinks scored six.
Kuemper falls to 4-1. Atlantic improves to 3-0.
