(IRVING, Texas) Iowa State junior guard Chris Babb was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week by the league office this morning. He was selected as this week’s best Big 12 newcomer by a select panel of media covering the league.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Babb averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 3-pointers in three Iowa State victories during the week. Babb shot 52.0 percent from 3-point range (13-25) and grabbed 5.0 rebounds, as Iowa State went undefeated at the South Padre Island Invitational.
Babb capped off the week by scoring a career-high 26 points behind a career-high seven 3-pointers in a 90-63 Cyclone win over Rice. Babb was 8-of-13 from the field, 7-of-11 from beyond the arc and recorded a career-high three steals vs. the Owls.
Babb, who was named to the South Padre Island Invitational All-Tournament team, has made two or more 3-pointers in all six games and ranks fourth nationally in 3-pointers per game at 3.8.
Babb is the second Cyclone to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors this year. Royce White was the recipient of the honor on Nov. 14.
