(Atlantic) It took four sets for the Harlan Cyclones to the defeat the Red Oak Tigers and punch their ticket to the state volleyball tournament in Cedar Rapids. It was the third time this season that Harlan beat Red Oak. The 10th ranked Cyclones are now 31-6 this season and have won 15 of their last 16 matches.
Jess Schaben led the way with 28 kills and Josie Esser tallied 12 in the win.
The Cyclones will take on 29-8 Dubuque Wahlert in the first round on Wednesday, November 9th. Other Class 3A Quarterfinals include 34-7 Charles City against 43-11 Bishop Heelan, 32-5 Maquoketa takes on 45-3 Waverly-Shell Rock, and 32-1 Solon will play 32-7 Union.
In Class 4A, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln topped Urbandale Wednesday night to advance to the state tournament. 25-21 Abraham Lincoln will take on 36-6 Iowa City West. Other matchups look like this, 29-9 Cedar Rapids Kennedy against 25-8 Dubuque Hempstead, 38-3 Iowa City High opposes 26-12 Cedar Falls, and 28-8 Ankeny will battle 27-7 Waukee.
